The 7 most asked questions about baby hammocks
As new parents, it's completely natural to have questions. This is the beginning of a completely new journey. A journey that lasts 18 years.
Holding your baby for the first time is the most wonderful thing in the world, but uncertainties might arise - for most, it's unknown territory.
You cannot predict your baby's personality. Some are blessed with a baby who sleeps through the night, while others may experience sleep challenges. Your baby might need extra closeness and finds it difficult to fall asleep without the comforting, familiar rocking movements from the womb.
The baby hammock is your helping hand
Regardless of your sleep situation, there are no fixed rules. All babies are different.
However, we do know that a baby hammock can be an invaluable help for most babies.
Below, we have compiled an overview of the 7 most asked questions regarding the use of the baby hammock and the cradle bouncer.
1. Can rocking my baby to sleep make him/her dependent? And is it healthy?
Rocking your baby not only calms the nervous system but also create familiarity, as your baby recognizes the rocking movements from time spent in the mother's womb. This recognition further contributes to calming your baby and thereby making it easier for him/her to fall asleep. At the same time, the rocking movements support the child's further development. No need to worry about making your baby dependent, as the need for being rocked to sleep typically diminishes within the first year.
2. Is it healthy for my baby to be positioned with a curved back?
At birth, infants have a naturally curved spine formed by the position in the womb during pregnancy. As your baby develops, gains mobility, and is able to lift his/her neck/head, the spine undergoes a gradual transformation from a C-shape to a more elongated S-shape. In the initial phase of your baby's life, the baby hammock supports the natural curved shape your baby is accustomed to. The spine completes its development when your child learns to walk - typically between 12 and 18 months.
3. How to wean my baby off the baby hammock?
The need for being rocked to sleep or to remain asleep typically diminishes within the first year. Therefore, there is no need to worry about how to gradually wean your child off the baby hammock. You can compare it to the use of a pacifier, which comforts your child and contributes to a safe sleep during his/her first year of life.
4. How do I prevent my baby from overheating whilst sleeping in the baby hammock?
Our premium baby hammock includes a temperature-regulating mattress made of pure wool ensuring the perfect temperature in the hammock. The choice of wool helps create an optimally temperature-regulated sleeping environment. However, it is important to always be mindful of your baby's body temperature by gently feeling the back of the neck using two fingers.
5. For how many hours a day can I use the baby hammock?
There is no limit on how long your baby can sleep in the baby hammock. You just need to make sure to keep him/her under supervision. However, it's worth mentioning that currently there is no research on this area.
6. When should I stop using the baby hammock?
The baby hammock can be used from birth up to a weight of 15 kg, or until your baby starts to crawl, stand up, or sit.
7. Can my baby sleep in the baby hammock at night?
Currently, there is no available research that definitively confirms or denies whether it is safe for babies to sleep in the baby hammock at night. It's important to emphasize that your baby should be supervised whilst sleeping in the hammock. We always recommend following the general sleep guidelines provided by the health authorities and considering alternating between a regular bed and the baby hammock to best meet your baby's needs.
